Emmylou’s birthday & Father’s Day

A weekend of celebrations, meeting new friends, getting outdoors and eating great food.. Summer is officially here and I couldn’t be happier! We started things off with Emmylou’s 2nd birthday on Friday. I left work a bit early and came home to spend the evening with her. We put up a few decorations and tried to explain to her this birthday business and sang Happy Birthday to her. I’m not sure she really understood what was happening, but she did like the singing. Saturday morning I wanted to make her a special breakfast so I made black forest cake chia parfaits with coconut whipped cream (I will post the recipe soon.. it was a hit). Then we headed out to the yard to ride her new bike (gift from the grand-parents) and colour with some chalk until nap time. We had gotten a flier in the mail a couple of weeks ago about a block party on my street that was happening Saturday afternoon/evening. We weren’t sure what to expect but it was actually awesome and we met so many new people. They had firetrucks come and all of the kids took turns climbing up into the back and the drivers seat. Emmylou loved it. We also met some young families who live on the other side of the crescent – one family even has a little girl the same age as Emmylou which I am so excited about!

Sunday I made reservations for us to have afternoon tea at the Fairmont Palliser Hotel downtown to celebrate EL’s birthday.

The tea is between 1 pm – 3 pm, which is also Emmylou’s nap time. So she was unfortunately kind of a cranky pants and didn’t enjoy herself nearly as much as I expected she would, but at this age you have to be able to role with the punches, so we made the most of it. Afternoon tea is something I’ve always wanted to do so I had a great time. They served the most amazing vanilla scones with Devonshire cream and homemade jams.. and deviled eggs with caviar and lemon raspberry macaroons.. I could go on.. Lol.

Sunday evening was a quiet one. I made fettuccine alfredo for Zach for Father’s Day (his favourite meal) and we watched the second to last episode of Game of Thrones for the season. Zach also got a last minute call on Saturday saying he has to go to Toronto for work this week, which is funny because I was in Toronto last week for work. So that means it’s just me and EL and the pups this week!

For Afternoon tea I wore my Clarks tan wedges, which are serving me well so far this season. My new Forever 21 tan purse, a navy scarf from H&M (similar), classic back Prada sunnies, and a blue dress I picked up at a consignment store by my house. Emmylou’s dress is from a really cool brand called Princess Awesome. They make girls clothing with trains and robots and dinosours on them, rather than the typical ‘girly’ patterns.
