Edible gift idea - Chocolate covered pretzels with white chocolate drizzle

So…. I’ve been trying to eat healthy this week after my over the top weekend indulgences – as in I made pancakes TWICE, homemade pizza, AND these delicious Christmas goodies of which I ate approximately 100. Ah, winter. In the warmer months you can generally find me living off of green smoothies and avocado toast, but in the winter… Well let’s just say if this keeps up I’ll need new pants in about ten minutes…

Have you heard about the Danish concept of Hygge yet? If you haven’t, you will soon because it’s everywhere these days (and with good reason). It basically means ‘coziness’ and it’s how people in Denmark get through the long cold winter. Think candles, cozy blankets, getting together with friends and family over mulled wine or hot cocoa, and eating lots of comfort food (which is obviously the part I subscribe to the most…). We are going through a serious cold spell right now that’s expected to last for a couple of weeks, so I’ll be employing hygge wherever I can to get me through (and shopping for new pants).

Because I love spending time in the kitchen, this time of year especially, I’ve always loved the idea of edible Christmas gifts. They are a great option for friends, family and co-workers, and can save you money and time if you make a large batch and divide it up. I also hate seeing all of the waste that typically accompanies the holidays (wrapping paper, gifts that don’t get used, etc), so an edible gift in a reusable tin can be a great alternative. I also love the simplicity of this recipe, they are pretty much fool-proof, and the fact that they are easy enough for toddler or kids to help with! You can also customize them. I used gold sprinkles, but I also thought crushed up candy cane pieces would be a fun option!

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Pre-heat oven to 200 (°F). Break dark and milk chocolate into small pieces and place in oven-safe bowl. Do the same with the white chocolate. Place bowls on lowest rack in oven and stir often until chocolate is melted.
  2. Dip pretzels individually in melted dark/milk chocolate mixture, leaving a small piece not coated. Place on a baking tray lined with wax paper. Once you have a few rows done, and before the chocolate hardens, sprinkle with topping of choice (I used gold sprinkles, but crushed up candy cane or dried coconut would also be fun and festive options.
  3. Spoon melted white chocolate into snack size zip lock bag. I recommend using 2-3 small bags because if you put it all in one, the chocolate might harden before you are done making it difficult to squeeze out. Cut of the tiniest corner of the bag, and use like a piping bag to drizzle the white chocolate over the completed tray of pretzels. Sprinkle with a few more sprinkles and place in fridge to harden.
  4. Repeat steps until all of your chocolate is gone (you might have to re-warm the chocolate up a couple of times throughout the process). Let pretzels harden in the fridge for a couple of hours, then place into tins or gift bags.
